The last time I saw The Sound of Music I was young enough to be one of the Von Trapp children. As a child I used to watch our video copy of it over and over. I loved singing the songs and wished I could live in an austere and beautiful world with governesses and matching play clothes and spontaneous singing.
This time around I half-heartedly started watching it on TV the other day wondering if it would still have the same magic. As I settled in I felt like I was watching it for the first time. This time being old enough to be Maria falling in love with Captain Von Trapp my heart palpitated as I watched their romance bloom, smiled like a cat at the tension between the Baroness and Maria and laughed at Uncle Max' dry humor.
And of course the clothes are still amazing. I love the Baroness' high society glittery looks, Maria's simple but well-fitted clothes and the children's proper matching outfits.
After watching this I'm inspired to re-watch other childhood favorites as well. Next up: Pippi Longstocking.
