FRIEDIA SHOW!

Hello everybody! I can't believe it's already the middle of July that means 2010 is more than half over. Are you checking off those New Year's resolutions? :-) I find this mid-point exciting; it fires me up knowing I don't have much time left til 2011. Each day is so important!

Anyways, enough with the small talk: I'm writing because the wonderful, adorable, multi-talented Friedia interviewed me for her webshow, eponymously named, Friedia Show! It was so much fun filming this and it turned out so great(much thanks to director, Sunny)! What more could I ask for? It's a perfect time capsule that I can show to my grandkids one day to prove that I too was once young(hehehe). :-)

esther diary!

hello lovely peoples,

I've been keeping an outfit diary of sorts since the beginning of October and I've been really enjoying documenting my sartorial choices. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with all the individual outfit drawings but I decided to do a monthly version of my diary. A loose collection of what I bought, did, saw, wore...you know, something light and fun. Hope you like the first installment.

love,

esther

My hawk-eyed and slightly petulant-looking(in this photo) friend, Chris, sent me this pic of my new illustration in the June issue of Nylon.

himitsu no akko-chan.

Well-known Japanese manga artist, Akatsuka Fujio, was beloved for the crazy and funny worlds he created in his comics. I was asked to re-interpret some of his characters from his anime and comic, Himitsu no Akko-chan(Akko-chan's Secret). It was a major collaborative effort between Japanese clothing company: Ciaopanic, creative agency: Gasbook and three artists:Neasden Control Center, Genevieve Gauckler and myself. The website is set up in a fun, "bouncy" way. You can check it out here(I would go to check out the wonderful clothing).

diary...

i've been keeping an outfit diary for the past couple months. in one way or another i'm always recording my life...i'm a little sad at the lack of written word though. i used to write long journal entries each day when i was younger....i think its cause drawing takes a lot of time and by the time i'm finished with an image I have a nice calm feeling that makes me forget to write...which i guess is actually good. :-)

cut it out!

Talk about putting a smile on my face. Awesome girl, Michelle, sent me this pic where she actually cut out the paperdoll drawing I did for the M.I.S.S. show and arranged it in a frame. I love the way she put it together with the little doll on the frame and all...I mean I drew it as a paperdoll but I never thought to actually try it out. Surprisingly the clothes mostly fit....the bodysuit is a little short(but pretty good for just eye-balling it!) :-) Anyways, loving this creativity!! Oh and Michelle has a blog! Go check it out!

hairtalk

(the pics are all out of order...but the way the zine goes is that we each have five pages and than we meet in the middle....)

My friend, Aya, and I made our second zine: Hairtalk. Our first zine was put together at a tiny Kinko's in Shibuya. It was so fun. We met in Tokyo about three years ago and although we're in different cities in the States now we still try to do creative projects together. So take a look at our latest creative endeavor.

new face!

I finally got around to changing the front page on my website. I've had the previous one forever and I loved it mostly because I enjoyed seeing my friends' faces but I realized that it looks lazy not to change it. I mean I had it for more than three years..Yikes, that's long!

So yeah, I'm going to try to change it up more frequently from here on out.

old but new.

Oldie but goodie. Drawing I did a couple years ago. Interesting to look at it again now.
