diary...

i've been keeping an outfit diary for the past couple months. in one way or another i'm always recording my life...i'm a little sad at the lack of written word though. i used to write long journal entries each day when i was younger....i think its cause drawing takes a lot of time and by the time i'm finished with an image I have a nice calm feeling that makes me forget to write...which i guess is actually good. :-)

nineties...

Feeling inspired by nineties style/Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis grunge collection...floral spaghetti strap dresses with stripey thermal shirts and chucks...I love this dress but I have to be feeling kind of bold to wear it...its so much print on a lot of fabric...but kind of catches my nineties mood. :-)

outfit post

It was so cold last night that I ended up wearing this very Autumn-y outfit(see: armwarmers, tights and cardigan) out to see a friend's band play. L.A. weather is cool in the morning, hot during the day and cool at night no matter what the season is. At least that's what it feels like to me and my very un-scientific observations.

Also I haven't had any coffee since Monday. I can't believe I got through the week. Yeah, me!

polka, polka, polka dots!

I wore this to a friend's dinner party...My dinner date, Jessica, was wearing polka, polka, polka dots, too. Hers were cream polka dots on black so it was a nice yin and yang affect. I often find myself in these yin and yang dichotomies whether in personalities, hair color, or outfits....I guess in America there is a lot of opportunity for contrasts.

a little old.

(Tyra would not like my no-neck bad posture...I don't like it either)

Haven't done an outfit post in awhile. I get intermittently shy about posting these things.....I still don't feel completely at ease about it but then my friends who are abroad are like, "oh, i checked your blog and i liked your outfit" so then i feel kind of motivated...:-) anyways, here's a shot of me and jessica heading out to something a couple weeks ago.

New Years Outfit.

What I wore for New Years. :-)

One of my goals this year is to have super long mermaid hair. I would say about five more inches would be nice (I want to be an asian mermaid). And have been going with a center part. I think I'm going to stick with it for a while...we'll see where it goes. :-)

Also just started reading Tolstoy's Anna Karenin or Karenina...it's my first book of '09. Wish I'd found Tolstoy about ten years ago it would've helped me as a young guppie when I first swam from my aquarium into the big ocean of life. Oh well, better late than never. Yeah!! Here's to many more good books and super long hair this year!

bows on my head

I wore this outfit to stop by a friend's birthday. I always wrangle my friend, Sharice, into these pictures. She has by now realized that it is easier to acquiesce than to resist. Also looking at this picture I realize my shoes don't go with the outfit as well as I thought.

new people meeting time.

Last Sunday I met up with Elisa, an editor at Bon Appetit. Did you know that they have higher subscription rates than Vogue? Who knew? Anyways, it's always lovely talking to super smart girls like Elisa. We met at Lamill coffee and although the drinks and dessert were good our service was really, really bad. I just read a NYTimes article about how wait staff can be biased towards women customers because we tend to eat less and talk more. So we tie up the tables and leave smaller tips. Yes, I understand this might be annoying if the place was busy but it was not THAT busy when we were there. But I'm gonna let it go and give the waiter the benefit of the doubt, maybe he didn't get the part he auditioned for and was feeling peeved. Who knows?

Later on I went to Little Tokyo to meet Lisa Soltis, a really cool friend of a friend, fellow illustrator. She introduced me to Yogurtland and I think Pinkberry for me will never be the same. Yogurtland is the democratized version of Pinkberry: self-service, multi-flavor, really cheap frozen yogurt spot. I tried N.Y. cheesecake, pumpkin and blueberry frozen yogurt with tons of fruit toppings: strawberry, mango, pineapple and kiwi in a gigantic cup(the only size they have) and it was like $3.25!!! It would've been a million bucks anywhere else....but in defense of Pinkberry, the ambiance of Yogurtland is kind of like a cafeteria. Pinkberry still has it's place but it needs to watch it's back. (the pumpkin and cheesecake were sooooo good!!!!)

Here's what I wore that day:

jumpsuit joy!

(Since this picture I got new sheets so no more Laura Ashely duvet cover and my bed is properly sheeted. :-) I've joined the rest of civilization and I don't know why I have this super mean face here but yeah....)

Here is my newest jumpsuit acquisition. I have to say jumpsuits are endlessly fascinating and covetable to me. I think they are going through a revival, somewhat of a renaissance, so I'm trying to collect them while I can. I mean I remember when I used to wish for jumpsuits but the only kinds that were available were by J.Lo or really heinous vintage ones that had dated fits. Scary! But 2008 has brought so much jumpsuit joy. This one is Betsey Johnson. You can get it here. Ahhh~~! :0)

black boots!!!

(big:trying to be serious face and small: not so serious face)

I have been wanting high-heeled black boots for awhile. I was thinking and thinking about them and out of the blue I got an email from Danielle at Solestruck with an offer I could not refuse: free shoes. Wow, I wish things in my life always worked like this.

Anyways, I was initially a little scared of my boots when they arrived. I thought they looked too goth for some reason. I doubted my choice a little but I decided to give them a chance. I debuted them last night and was happy to realize they were exactly what I wanted and needed! My wardrobe feels updated and reset.

I ordered them a half size up so that I could put insoles in the front but even without insoles they're very comfy. (I wish I had these when I lived in Tokyo!!) Anyways, if any of you are looking for walk-in-able high-heeled black boots click: here.

obama!

I went to my friend Diane's fundraiser/party for Obama on Thursday night. This is what I wore. I'm really trying to be more creative with my clothes and to wear pieces that I've neglected for awhile in new ways. I've never worn this combination of clothes before and I think I like it. I tried to make it a bit silly with my hair. I'm feeling like I want a little silliness in my look, to be more specific controlled silliness. It's my new "thing".

leopard spots

I wore this to a friend's going away dinner last week. I'm making an effort to dress up more lately. Trying to get out of my leggings or "jeans I always" wear rut. Oh, and this is my new hair. I like that it's kind of goofy. It's loosely inspired by Claudia from the Babysitter's Club and Sohee from the Wondergirls. :-) And it's okay if you don't know either references. They're both cultural junk food.

comfy clothes.

I got this jersey jumpsuit at Forever21(hangs head in shame, I don't really want to think about how they can make their clothes so cheap)....and it seemed vaguely Stella McCartney/Yohji Yamamoto and Norma Kamali at the same time so I decided to take it home. I usually try to stay away from anything jersey from F21. I just see boring jersey blouses and dresses everywhere and it drives me nuts but this was a. a jumpsuit and b. black so it passed the different and special yet anonymous(i.e. not too F21) test. Oh, and I got my Heather collaboration bag in the mail. I love it so much that I'm scared to use it. I want to laminate it and frame it. :-)

***Minah chan arigatou....shashin utsuri ga yokattano kana...zenzen mattaku undo shitemasen....it's soooo bad....dakedo saikin gym ni haittano de. mata kiai iremasu. :-)

what i wore today: body con is back!

I am loving all the nineties body-con dresses. This one is really cool cause it has buttons down the front and ruffles at the top with little black rosettes. So nineties!!

what i wore today.

t-shirt: vintage
jeans: Uniqlo
boots: vintage

It's easier to post pictures of what I wore than to write. My blog is so random and increasingly without order. But that's okay.
