Girls are like apples. The best ones are at the top of the trees. The boys don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples that are on the ground that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples at the top think there is something wrong with them, when,in reality, they are amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along, the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree.

GENERIC YOUTH

I'm making my photographic and styling debut in Nylon Japan this month. I had such a fun time doing this photoshoot. Who knew I had such a bossy side? Maria and Alanna were especially helpful in setting up and helping choose outfits! I also have to thank Scott and Jeff for their warm hospitality!
I met the Generic Youth team back in May at the Costa Mesa store. The designer, Jeff Yokoyama, is an apparel legend. He started Maui and Son in 1980 to great success and went on to create several more brands, along the way consulting for the likes of other action sports giants such as Quilksilver, Stussy. To say he is a hard-working man is an understatement and yet in person he is humble and very kind. His latest creative endeavor, Generic Youth, is a very hands-on brand which uses a lot of recycled fabrics and has a very special homegrown, handmade feel. I especially fell in love with the hoodies made out of used beach towels. They actually have an event every Wednesday at which you trade old beach towels for burgers. Its the kind of genuine neighborhood touch that is very hard to find in most brands. I wish Generic Youth the best of luck...not that they need any.

FRIEDIA SHOW!
Hello everybody! I can't believe it's already the middle of July that means 2010 is more than half over. Are you checking off those New Year's resolutions? :-) I find this mid-point exciting; it fires me up knowing I don't have much time left til 2011. Each day is so important!
Anyways, enough with the small talk: I'm writing because the wonderful, adorable, multi-talented Friedia interviewed me for her webshow, eponymously named, Friedia Show! It was so much fun filming this and it turned out so great(much thanks to director, Sunny)! What more could I ask for? It's a perfect time capsule that I can show to my grandkids one day to prove that I too was once young(hehehe). :-)

cut it out!

Talk about putting a smile on my face. Awesome girl, Michelle, sent me this pic where she actually cut out the paperdoll drawing I did for the M.I.S.S. show and arranged it in a frame. I love the way she put it together with the little doll on the frame and all...I mean I drew it as a paperdoll but I never thought to actually try it out. Surprisingly the clothes mostly fit....the bodysuit is a little short(but pretty good for just eye-balling it!) :-) Anyways, loving this creativity!! Oh and Michelle has a blog! Go check it out!

estonian girl~!
the mishmash of influences just keeps getting more and more hybrid:
love the victorian/goth-loli/scene/bjork/pop vibe....uber cute. :-)
at certain points she sounds like pink...which makes sense since they're both signed by l.a. reid(maybe same writers??).

side by side.

(Minzy in Jeremy Scott leggings and CL in Betsey Johnson Opening Ceremony Archive skirt)
I love that 2ne1's stylists have been putting the girls in Jeremy Scott since they first debuted.....I love Jeremy Scott's jersey piececs and prints but I have to say Betsey Johnson did those cuts about twenty years before him. Just sayin', I mean I love them both! They both make clothes for, as cliche as this sounds, girls that wanna have fun or look fun....:-)

tavi

So there's this blog I follow, style rookie.
The blogger is, Tavi, who is thirteen going on twenty seven and writes highly witty blogs about high fashion and what not. Through the combination of her precociousness and her serious attitude towards fashion she has become somewhat of an internet wunderkind. Editors send her designer pieces and in a recent post she visited the Rodarte sisters in L.A.. I mean how cool is this kid? It kind of blows my mind. Anyways, she gave Laura and Kate Mulleavy a zine she made and here's where it connects to me, she collaged some of the girls I drew for the May issue of Nylon!! How rad! I am in a very remote way connected to Tavi and the Rodarte sisters through this. Such an awesome feeling to be collaged by a cool kid like Tavi. :-)
